Melanie Tran has been a member of the Humble Haven community since we first opened and a supporter of Humble Haven from even before then. Melanie and Suzanne met in Arlington, Va while Melanie was practicing at a studio where Suzanne first started teaching. The stars aligned when they both realized that they would be relocating to Richmond and could continue their yoga journey together . Melanie has been a friendly face at the studio, helping us keep it all together during the busy evening rush for the past 18 months. What is your favorite style of class to teach and why?
Power – I love that it offers balance in the mental vs. physical and edge vs. ease and non-attachment to the past or future with a focus on the present.
What made you want to go beyond just practicing yoga and start teaching?
I wanted to be able to share how life-changing yoga was to me with others. The lessons learned in your practice 100% align with lessons that can be applied in life.
If you had to describe your teaching style in 3 words or less, what would you say?
Direct yet supportive
What’s your favorite yoga pose?
Trikonasana/Triangle pose – that side body stretch is EVERYTHING when you’re sitting at a desk all day.
What do you like to do around Richmond?
Eat at all the restaurants, drink all the coffee, visit all the craft breweries, and frolic around river!
What’s your favorite food?
That’s a tough question…I can’t name one favorite food but I love any dish that masters the perfect umami flavor.
Tea or Coffee?
Coffee all the way – French pressed black coffee (I love trying locally roasted beans) or an almond milk dirty chai from Black Hand.

Why are you excited to teach at Humble Haven Yoga?
The energy of the community and sense of openness at Humble Haven is so unique and refreshing and the fact that I get to be a part of that is such an honor.

Right now – I love practicing to anything by Odezsa.
