The Connection Retreat

Duck, North Carolina | October 13-18, 2024

Your all inclusive week at the beach kicks off Sunday, October 13, 2024 in Duck, North Carolina! We will settle into a spacious, 8 bedroom, 7 bathroom beachfront home with plenty of space to explore the beach or sound, the towns of Duck and Corolla, or lounge at the house in the hammocks, hot tub, or recently updated indoor living space.

The property where we will be staying is within a mile of downtown Duck which hosts restaurants and shops. October is off-season in the Outer Banks so if you’re craving a quiet beach getaway, this is the perfect time and place to do it!

Retreat Offerings

Our daily movement offerings will be a combination of Humble Haven’s staple classes - Power, Power Down, Hamstrings, Hips, and Spines, and Yoga Build. Each day, one of our offerings will be rooted in mindfulness and meditation as a tool for visualization and manifestation. These daily practices are intended to build on one another. Starting with a guided vision-meditation followed by daily practices to intentionally and mindfully make that vision a reality. Lovingly named The Connection Retreat for all the ways we are meant to and/or desire to connect…

Connection with nature…take in the site of and feel of the ocean and sand right outside your door.

Connection with physical well being…be fed plentiful and nurturing meals each day that are professionally crafted just for you + daily movement practices led by Emely and Suzanne.

Connection with your desired future…your meditation practice can be the groundwork for connecting to the life you envision for yourself.

Your Retreat Leads

Suzanne Burns

Suzanne began practicing yoga on a regular basis in 2008 when she attended her first Hot Yoga class in Washington, DC where she was living at the time. Although she didn’t know it, beginning a regular yoga practice was a remedy for working through feelings of grief after losing her grandmother. The tools that the yoga practice provides - breath, concentration, self study, movement - in any given class have carried Suzanne through that season and many seasons of change and personal evolution since then.

As a student Suzanne has trained in Power, Integral, Kundalini, and Forrest Yoga. As a teacher, she pulls from each of these lineages of practice to meet each individual practitioner exactly where and as they are and provide unique access points of self discovery through movement and meditation.

As the founder and creator of Humble Haven Yoga, Suzanne doesn’t believe in just doing yoga, but living yoga and knows the power of immersing oneself in a retreat experience to reinvigorate, inspire, or begin doing just that.

Emely Taveras

Emely began her yoga journey in 2013, soon after moving to RVA.  What started out as a once a week practice quickly became an every day practice once she found hot power yoga and Humble Haven Yoga.  She came to yoga out of curiosity but soon noticed the profound changes happening not just on her mat but in her life as well.  She finally took the plunge in 2019 and became a RYT-200 by completing her yoga teacher training at Humble Haven Yoga.  One of the main take-ways from that experience was that there is always more to learn and space to grow.  The beauty of yoga is being able to step on your mat and letting the practice guide you.

As a teacher, she holds space for students to discover their own paths to happiness and fulfillment.  Ultimately, finding love for themselves through their practice.  Her classes are energetic and playful.  Focusing on proper alignment and taking yourself to your edge so you can explore what’s available.

Among other things, Emely loves science fiction stories, iced coffee, traveling to new destinations, and spoiling her pup.

Your Retreat Chef

Jamie Dalton has a self proclaimed obsession with food and cooking that started at the age of 5 when she realized and taught herself how to make cookie dough. For the past 10 years Jamie has worked for A Sharper Palate, a Richmond based full service catering company that prides themselves on exceeding expectations, and currently holds the position of Sous Chef. Prior to her time with A Sharper Palate, Jamie spent another decade around food and working in the restaurant business. She’s passionate about what she does because food makes people happy and what keeps her going is cooking for people on a special day and having the opportunity to add to that. In her words, “everyone remembers the food”.

We can’t wait to see you at the beach ❤️ - Suzanne, Emely, & Jamie
