"HHY Prenatal was hands down the best thing I did for myself and for my baby during my pregnancy. It prepared me for labor, built strength and flexibility, and helped me cope with the mental and emotional struggles of pregnancy. Not to mention the wonderful mama community I was welcomed into - I'm still very close with many of the moms I met in this class! Would highly recommend!" - Sarah

About the Instructor - Suzanne Burns

In January 2015, Suzanne headed west to California to train with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa in her 85-hour Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training. At the time, Suzanne was teaching yoga professionally and at the brink of her own fertility journey, eager to want to learn more for her own well being and to support those who attended her classes. Fast forward to January 2016, Suzanne opened Humble Haven Yoga in Richmond, VA and after nearly two years of trying to conceive, Suzanne found out she was expecting. Over the last four years Suzanne has been teaching Prenatal Yoga at Humble Haven, has created and led her own Pre and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training, and given birth to her two children, Holt (4) and June (18 months).

As a yoga teacher, Suzanne believes in creating an environment and class structure that is supportive to all persons during their quest to become parents. To ensure a space for collective community, Suzanne incorporates teachings from other trainings she has attended with Yoga for the Special Child, Birthing Bodies: LGBT Inclusion in Prenatal Yoga, and trauma informed yoga teaching with Connection Coalition. Her class style combines her love of Power Vinyasa, Hatha, and Kundalini Yoga as taught to her by Gurmukh.

As a mother, Suzanne has navigated an intervention free pregnancy and one high risk following her daughter's diagnosis of Down syndrome at 12 weeks of pregnancy. Suzanne has a personal understanding of the importance of community and support in navigating the road to parenthood, whatever that may look like. She knows firsthand that the tools we learn on our yoga mat before our babies arrive, as we carry them, and anticipate their arrival, are the same tools that we harness as we raise them alongside ourselves.

"If anyone asks me for advice about pregnancy and preparing to become a parent I tell them one thing - find yourself some mom friends. And then I tell them that I can trace my entire circle of mom friends back to attending prenatal yoga at Humble Haven. I am eternally grateful for not only the physical and mental benefits of prenatal yoga, but also for the incredible community that Humble Haven provided during such a transformational time." - Kate

"Prenatal yoga at Humble Haven was such a critical element of my pregnancy journey. It helped me gain the physical and mental strength needed for the birth experience I had envisioned. Beyond that, class became a community where I found so many strong, supportive, amazing mamas. Forever grateful for that time spent on the mat surrounded by individuals on the same path." - Bee
