Practice as a Non-negotiable

A Mission Moment Share from Humble Haven’s Founder, Suzanne Burns

When I first started practicing yoga it was something I did. It had a start time and a finish time. But, it didn’t take long to realize that the benefits of yoga were lasting beyond class time. My sleep improved, I had a greater sense of calm and a newfound sense of clarity during typically stressful moments of my day.

Over the years yoga has become a lifestyle and the best part is, I didn’t have to perform some major life upheaval to make it so. I just have to practice.

If you study the principles of Hatha yoga, you are given a roadmap of how to apply yoga to your day-to-day life. If you practice yoga - breath, meditation, stillness, focus, presence, silence, movement - the principles will be in action and embodied.
Yoga IS a way of living. Life also hand us situations that challenge the application of yogic principles. For me, this is why a daily, dedicated time for practice is non-negotiable. My practice is my prayer. It’s different lengths and often different times, but my practice is a re-commitment every day to feel the way I want to live. Living yoga is to nurture our individual well being so we may serve our outer world and honor the well being of others. All that is required is practice.
